So yeah, this post was supposed to be done yesterday, but things have been kind of hectic. I started a new job Monday, and commuting wears me out. I need to remedy that situation ASAP. Also, I planned to write my blog after the U.S. Open Men’s Final on Sunday, but the match got washed out. Rafael Nadal and Noval Djokovic played last night FINALLY.

    On to the point…

                       Hugs

Being a sports fan can be amazing. Sports are the ultimate reality TV. You’re never sure of what you’re going to get. You can get the sublime like your favorite player winning his first U.S. Open final, which is what happened Monday night. Rafael Nadal, through his tenacity, strength of will, and sheer talent, won the tournament that had managed to elude him over the years. He is the best tennis player in the world, bar none. I was so beyond ecstatic for him.

    What a feeling!

As I’m sure we’re all aware, Sunday comes before Monday. As thrilled as I was Monday night, I was equally pissed Sunday night. The Dallas Cowboys found another creative way to lose a game – to a team they have no business losing to if they have Super Bowl aspirations. The only consolation I can take is that it was the first game of the season, and they have 15 more games to go.

    What a feeling indeed.

What/who are you hugging this week?
What/who is bugging the mess out of you?

    xoxo,
    Jamie

Today starts a new feature on my poor neglected blog. I’m calling it Hugs 'N' Bugs Monday. I was quite proud of myself for coming up with that name, but if you have a better name, please feel free to let me know. During these Monday posts, I will be talking about something that I absolutely adore and something that absolutely works my last nerve. Without further ado…

    Hugs…

Everyone who knows me knows that I am a huge sports junkie. However, I’m not just talking about the most popular sports in the U.S., football and baseball, although I do love those. Another sport I love, love, love is tennis. It is such a beautiful, exhilarating, unpredictable, heartwarming, heartbreaking sport. Lucky for me, the U.S. Open, the last major of the year, starts today. I’m getting to the point, I promise.

My favorite player is Rafael Nadal from Spain. Oh, how I heart him. He’s not the most conventionally handsome tennis player, but he is so very sexy. I plan to base a character on him someday. Why is he sexy? I mean besides the muscles and the butt to die for. Let me count the ways.

    1.    Off the court, he is humble, and I don’t find it fake. I’ve watched tons of interviews with athletes over the years. I’ve rolled my eyes many, many times. I never do with Rafa. He gets nervous before matches and admits it. He gives credit to his opponents and doesn’t assume he has it in the bag, even though most times he does.

    2.    He’s not satisfied. He doesn’t rest on his laurels. Players from his country are often clay court specialists, which is fine, except for the fact that the game is played on surfaces other than clay, namely grass and hard court. He is the best clay court player of all time. (And no, that’s not just the fangirl in me coming out). But he wasn’t happy with that. He’s won Wimbledon, which is played on grass, twice. He’s won the Australian Open and the Olympics, both played on hard court. He has an amazing resume. There’s just one thing missing. He’s never won the U.S. Open. Will he win this year? I hope so, but who knows what the future holds. I know he’ll give it his all.

    3.    When he’s on the court, watch out. As humble as he is off the court, he’s the exact opposite during matches. The words relentless and ruthless come to mind.  Other players hate playing him because he never gives up on a ball. Opponents think they’ve won the point (because it’s true against most other players) only to have the ball come whizzing back at them. He plays every point like it’s his last. He’s as mentally tough as they come. He wears his opponents down mentally and physically. If you beat Rafa, you earn it.

So yeah, basically he’s the perfect hero, wouldn’t you agree? J

    Bugs…

This is such a happy blog, I really don’t want to talk about the tennis player who bugs the crap out of me. But never fear, next week, I’ll let the true Jamie out.

What/who are you hugging this week? What/who is bugging the mess out of you?

    xoxo,
    Jamie
